Plenty of Expedition runs end with the same ugly scene: the Queen is still standing, your heavy ammo is gone, and somebody is crawling behind a rock after an EMP pulse. July 2026 has made large ARCs meaner, not smarter-and that's worse. Players keep treating these fights like oversized patrols. They aren't. I've watched squads browse ARC Raiders BluePrints between matches, then walk in without a plan for the first slam. That's how a clean run becomes a repair bill.
Break The Queen Before Burning Her
The Queen has a simple damage order, and skipping it wastes everything. Hit the joints first. Once she's slowed or pinned, move onto the central core with Anvil or Bettina fire. Keep Hullcracker support ready for the heavy hits. Mid-range is the sweet spot-close enough to punish the core, far enough to dodge the ground slam and get behind cover when the EMP starts.
- Open with Snap Blast Grenades to soften the Queen before committing heavy ammo.
- Cripple the joints before shooting the central core.
- Clear summoned units as soon as they appear, especially before an EMP pulse.
- Run Jolt Mines and grenade traps when playing solo, because you can't cover every angle yourself.
Matriarch Punishes Greedy Teams
On paper, the Matriarch wants a clean group split: one player holds aggro and handles adds while the rest hammer the chassis for the better loot. Most teams blow it by seeing a clean firing lane, dumping Ferro and Anvil rounds into her body, then getting buried under fresh summons. Since patch 1.36, those add spawns arrive faster, so the old "burn her before it matters" approach doesn't hold up. Put one player on add control from the start. Give the body-focus pair Wolfpack Grenades for short burst windows. If the tank loses health, stop chasing damage and reset the room-Healing Augments matter more than squeezing out one extra reload.
Solo Loadouts Aren't Squad Loadouts
A coordinated team can bring Ferro, Anvil, Wolfpacks, and enough repair parts to brute-force bad decisions. Solo players don't get that luxury. Take a durable heavy weapon, build into Survival and Conditioning, and leave room for mines, traps, and healing. Legendary weapons are easier on durability during long Expedition chains, which matters when you're not extracting after every fight. Expedition 4 deserves extra prep too. Night runs need lighting, and rough weather can make resistance items feel less optional than they look in the stash.
Prep Before The Drop
Do people need to farm every Trials Season 5 weapon challenge before fighting these bosses? No. But finishing the challenges teaches you which current weapons actually fit your hands before a Matriarch asks the question in public. Pack heavy ammo, repairs, and healing first; then check ARC Raiders Items for sale for missing supplies before queueing. Start with three checks: your joint-break weapon, your add-control tool, and your weather kit.
