The latest Mythic changes have made D4 items a much bigger part of endgame planning. Instead of seeing Mythics as completely separate from ordinary Unique gear, players now have a crafting route that connects the two. A qualifying Ancestral Unique can be placed into the Horadric Cube and transformed into a Mythic item from the same slot.
This new approach makes D4 items worth evaluating more carefully. A Unique with a strong roll may be useful as a direct part of your build, while another one can become material for a Mythic gamble. The difference is knowing which items are worth keeping and which ones are safe to sacrifice.
Two Paths to Mythic Gear
The current system basically offers two different paths. The Cube route is based on RNG and uses Unique items plus Pandemonium Fragments. The traditional route focuses on crafting iconic Mythics with Resplendent Sparks and other required resources.
The Cube system requires a Unique with at least 850 Item Power and four Pandemonium Fragments. After the item is consumed, the Cube produces a random Mythic from the same equipment slot.
This can be convenient when you need a Mythic ring, helm, weapon, or another specific slot. However, the system does not allow you to select the exact item. A player looking for one particular Mythic can therefore burn through several attempts without getting the desired result.
Farming With a Purpose
The best way to make the current system work is to build your farming routine around the slot you actually need.
Suppose your character needs a Mythic helm. Instead of collecting random Uniques from every activity, prioritize sources that can provide helms. Obol gambling can also help increase the number of potential items available for Cube attempts.
The same principle applies to other equipment slots. The more efficiently you collect the right type of Unique, the less time you waste preparing for another crafting attempt.
Corrupted Reaper and Key Farming
Pandemonium Fragments are another major part of the current process. The Corrupted Reaper is especially important because its rewards can provide up to two Fragments per chest when fighting on Torment XII.
That makes the boss an important part of an efficient endgame rotation. You should also build a supply of Superior Lair Keys through seasonal reputation boards and Escalation Nightmare Dungeons.
Rather than treating these activities separately, it is better to connect them. Run content that generates keys, use those keys for the relevant boss encounters, collect Fragments, and then spend the resulting resources when you have enough Unique fodder.
Think Twice Before Salvaging
The biggest preparation mistake may be getting rid of a nearly perfect Unique simply because it is not currently a Mythic.
Future changes are expected to make the upgrade process much more direct. Instead of creating a random Mythic from the same slot, the next system is expected to preserve the original item's important characteristics.
That could include its affixes, Tempers, and Masterworking progress. In practical terms, a Unique with excellent Greater Affixes could become an ideal candidate for a future Mythic upgrade.
This is why inventory management has become part of endgame optimization. You do not necessarily need to keep every Unique, but items with unusually strong rolls deserve a second look before being salvaged.
Saving Resplendent Sparks
The next major system is also expected to shift the material economy. Pandemonium Fragments are planned to become less important, while Resplendent Sparks are expected to serve as the central resource for targeted Mythic upgrades.
That makes Sparks worth saving whenever possible. Having a reserve when the new system arrives could allow you to improve a carefully selected Unique immediately rather than starting the farming process from zero.
Mythic Charms and Seals are also worth monitoring. Changes to their requirements and recycling options could make previously saved materials more useful after the next update.
The main lesson is to avoid building your entire strategy around today's RNG system. Use the current Cube when the gamble makes sense, but preserve your strongest Unique rolls and valuable materials for future upgrades. Players who maintain a flexible stockpile will have more options when the next endgame meta settles.
If you want to reduce the time spent gathering basic currency while preparing your character, D4 Gold can be useful alongside normal farming. U4N offers another route for players who want to focus their in-game time on bosses, crafting, and pushing higher Torment content.
