Path of Exile 2's Oath Rune isn't immune to damage anymore. Tackle its extra Ward, manage minion pressure, and weigh Expedition rewards against the risk.

Under overlapping Expedition attacks and repeated minion pressure, a PoE 2 Oath Rune encounter can expose a build that only delivers its advertised DPS while standing still. The immediate problem is not your damage number; it is finding enough uninterrupted attack time without losing your escape route. Before spending Path of Exile 2 Currency on another offensive upgrade, identify what actually forces you off the target. A crowded arena, slow attack sequence, or weak recovery can each demand a different adjustment. Treat the fight as a test of sustained execution rather than a stationary damage check.

The Target Is Vulnerable, but the Pressure Remains

The 0.5.5 adjustment removes damage immunity from the monster receiving the Oath Rune effect. Instead, that monster receives increased Ward, spends less Ward summoning minions, and gains an increased rarity bonus. Those changes make attacking the main target a valid option, but they do not establish an automatic shortcut through the encounter. More Ward still means additional protection, while cheaper summoning can sustain the surrounding threat. The practical distinction is simple: stop treating the monster as untouchable, but do not mistake vulnerability for fragility. Its reward modifier is also an incentive, not a guaranteed valuable drop.

Measure Attack Time Before Adding Damage

Damage uptime is the first useful operating metric. For a simplified comparison, a setup delivering 100,000 DPS for four seconds of a ten-second interval contributes 400,000 damage. A lower-output setup delivering 80,000 DPS for seven seconds contributes 560,000. These are illustrative numbers, not Oath Rune benchmarks, but they explain why repeated disengagement deserves attention. Watch whether repositioning creates another attack opportunity or simply starts another retreat. If every offensive sequence ends with emergency movement, try shorter commitments and earlier repositioning before replacing equipment. Improving access to the target may matter more than increasing damage during windows you rarely secure.

Clear an Exit, Not Necessarily the Entire Pack

Target priority should follow the threat directly interfering with your next attack. If nearby minions close your exit or make standing still unsafe, remove enough of them to reopen space. If your area skill can cover both the pack and the Oath Rune monster, position to exploit that overlap rather than chasing scattered enemies. For a narrow single-target setup, alternate controlled clearing with focused damage. Avoid turning every summon into a compulsory detour. Conversely, refusing to address surrounding enemies can leave you defending continuously. The right target is whichever one restores a safe offensive window with the least wasted movement.

Long Animations Need More Room

Animation commitment is the second metric worth examining. Count how often a skill finishes too late for you to respond comfortably, rather than judging it only by its largest hit. Slow attacks and extended casting sequences deserve particular caution when enemies approach from several directions. Start them with an exit already available, and reserve longer commitments for visibly clear space. Fast-moving threats are especially awkward for builds dependent on stationary setup. Recovery and damage mitigation should support your preferred attack rhythm, not become excuses to remain planted through every incoming hit. Preserve essential defences when adjusting the loadout.

Before activating the site, read the Remnant combination against those weaknesses: sustained pressure, restricted movement, and insufficient attack opportunities. Choose manageable encounters until your build can repeat successful clears without frequent recovery stops. Judge farming value by completion time and consistency, not rarity alone. If you intend to buy POE 2 Currency Orbs, establish the specific equipment problem first; additional resources do not replace better positioning. In PoE 2, a sensible Oath Rune strategy keeps the primary target accessible, clears immediate threats selectively, and protects the attack windows your build actually needs.
