A build can clear packs comfortably yet run dry halfway through a boss encounter. Before spending POE 2 Orbs on replacement equipment, check whether the problem comes from expensive skills, unnecessary inputs, weak recovery, or a rotation that cannot sustain itself without frequent pauses.
Find Where the Mana Goes
Watch your mana during a repeatable stretch of combat, not just the opening burst. Start with your main damage skill, then introduce your usual secondary abilities. Note which action causes the largest drop and whether recovery catches up when you stop attacking.
Separate cost from frequency. An expensive skill used occasionally may be manageable, while a cheaper skill pressed constantly can exhaust your reserves. Also distinguish a small mana pool from a sustained deficit: extra capacity delays depletion, but does not necessarily solve spending that consistently exceeds recovery.
Check Whether Every Input Earns Its Cost
Long encounters expose habits that short fights hide. Refreshing an effect before it needs refreshing, repeating a setup ability without a clear benefit, or attacking through an unfavorable window can consume resources without producing worthwhile damage.
Review your rotation around the boss's actual openings. Use preparation skills when their effects are needed, then focus on the actions that deliver meaningful damage. Do not assume that pressing more buttons means higher output; compare what each additional action contributes against its mana cost and execution time.
Change One Variable at a Time
Choose a similar encounter phase for each test. Record how long you can maintain your rotation, how often mana forces you to stop, and roughly how much progress you make. Keep equipment and other skill choices unchanged whenever possible.
First test one support gem adjustment, checking the displayed cost and the support's stated effects. Next, restore the original setup and test less frequent secondary skill use. Finally, evaluate an available recovery improvement. Separate trials reveal which change actually helps rather than letting several simultaneous adjustments obscure the result.
Optimize Damage Across the Whole Fight
Consider a hypothetical character that repeatedly refreshes a secondary effect and empties its mana within a minute. Adding another offensive modifier improves its active damage, but leaves the same forced downtime. Refreshing that effect only when necessary could instead preserve enough mana to keep the main skill running longer.
That leaner rotation may deliver better sustained damage despite showing no increase in the main skill's listed output. If efficient timing still leaves a deficit, target recovery or excessive costs directly. Avoid replacing major defensive pieces or core damage investments before identifying the smallest effective correction.
Fix the spending pattern first, then improve the remaining weak point. If you decide to buy POE 2 Orbs, choose upgrades around the mana problem your testing actually revealed.
